AERIAL DRONES – A NEW TEAM MEMBER OF LITHUANIAN PAYING AGENCY

NIVA Use cases cover vast majority of future IACS novelties, but one is left out – aerial drones, which can also contribute to the modernization of IACS processes and more effective Paying Agency work.

At the end of 2019 Lithuanian Paying Agency (NPA) acquired 17 (14 Parrot Anafi and 3 DJI Phantom 4 RTK) drones (and reserve batteries) in order to increase performance of on the spot checks (OTSC), particularly in physically difficult to reach places (wetlands, islands, forests and etc.), sometimes with up to 100 ha area, were Area monitoring system (AMS), geotag photos and etc. can’t be used.

The drones are also used to check the investments into infrastructure (rooftops, fences and etc.) and starting from 2021 will used to produce localised (for example, in rapidly built up suburb areas) orthophoto images for LPIS update, since a good quality of LPIS is the key factor for AMS implementation.

Even though, there are limits to the usage of drones, but for sure they contribute to the future IACS modernization.
